SustainableSaturday.org was created as a contribution to the earth’s friendly movement. Our goal is to reduce our carbon footprint, use the least power possible, eat sustainable food, and do something that’s good for the Earth at least 1 Day a week. We’ll be sharing ideas, our own experiences and what works for us along the way and during our sustainability transformation making it easier for others to see the changes in our habits and reach the 350 goal (What is 350? read more at www.350.org).

There may be life in other planets out there thousands and thousands of miles and light years away but remember the one we live in right now is right here and our children will inherit whatever we’ll do with it.

Join us in this challenge to preserve life in this beautiful planet called Earth.

“Sustainable Saturday” challenge

At least 1 Day a week (Saturday) I will do the following:

  • I will turn off all electronic entertainment (computer, TV, VCR, Game consoles, etc)
  • I will use as little power as possible (to prepare meals, heat the house, lights etc)
  • I will eat only organic meals
  • I will eat No meat
  • I will eat at least 1 raw meal a day (healthy and saves power)
  • Avoid using the car for transportation
  • Will not go shopping unless is an essential need.

Here is what I will do instead:

  • Walk to the library
  • Walk to the farmers market or take public transport to the local organic farm
  • Read a book
  • Play boardgames with the family
  • Eat a candle-light dinner
  • Do some creative crafts from reusable junk (e.g. old newspapers, magazines, old t-shirts, cardboard boxes, etc)
  • Do some organic gardening
  • Go for a walk in the park or a hike
  • You can help me update the list … :-)
